Don’t Be Scared of the Word Love

Category: Excerpts

Don’t be scared of the word love and overreact to the abuse that its meaning has taken in our generation. The last thing we want to do is dull down its true meaning to be something different than what the Bible emphasizes it to be.

Excerpt taken from the message, Love is the Big Thing.

What Satan has done down through Church history, repeatedly, is he drives one group to an extreme and then we react in abhorrence and go to the opposite extreme, and he wins in both groups. So what we've got in our day is the word "love" has been turned into mush, so we're going to react and get scared of the word "love" in Scripture, and not talk about love. You see how he's won? I didn't take time to do it, but I could go through the New Testament and give you one passage after another where love is central. Paul says, "Owe no man anything but to love one another." You get to Timothy, he says, "the goal of our instruction..." What's the purpose? Why are men standing up here? Week by week. What's the goal of our instruction? Well, so you could learn what the tenth toe of Daniel's image represents in prophecy. No. "The goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, a sincere faith." He says, "If I could get you to have that, that's the highest thing imaginable."
